About

Biography

Steve Irwin was best known as “The Crocodile Man”.  He was a naturalist and conservationist from Australia who worked tirelessly to save the crocodile, and who achieved huge fame through his series “The Crocoldile Hunter”.  He appeared unconquerable and fearless in his documentaries that he co-hosted with his wife Teri.  He and his wife co-owned the Australia Zoo which was founded by Irwin’s parents.

He appeared in his television series regularly with his wife, and also appeared in a feature film The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course.  He appeared regularly as a guest on television, and did voice work in the 2006 movie ‘Happy Feet”.  He established the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation (later renamed to Wildlife Warriors Worldwide).

He died in a freak diving accident while filming a new documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.  Irwin swam too close to a Bull Ray and the barb of the animal went up and into his chest piercing his heart.  He died  almost immediately.

Diane Te Rupe (Apr 24, 2009)

I found Steve Irwin a very knowledgable person who knew what the conservation of crocodiles was all about. I watched his shows a lot I have his DVD's and Videos of Steve doing his thing and all my aroha (love) goes out to Terry and the Children. I can only imagine what it must be like to lose your soul mate but I wish them all the best for the future.
