Semaphore Day

Joanna Easom (Jul 11, 2008)

Mum wanted a special day for me to remember before her pain got too bad, so we drove down to Semaphore Beach and got fish and chips and ate it on the sand. I love getting all the seagulls to come over by feeding them chippies, usually mum tells me off for that, but today she joined in and we had them hovering over our heads, in reaching distance and they just hung there like a photo. Mum always loved fish and chips on the beach, I dunno where she got that tradition from, but it's ingrained in me and I too continue to grab fish and chips when at the beach.

After that we strolled down the main street, checking out the second hand shops. Mum LOVED going into antique places and drooling over the beautiful furniture, I enjoy it too. We visited some hippy/mystic shops for their silver jewelry. Mum bought me two pairs of earings - egyptian anks and rah's eye. She also bought me a silver ring, which come to think of it, I've bloody lost! Darn these share your memory things hehehe. Anyways, me being a scrooge it prolly only set her back thirty bucks, gotta love silver jewelry for the price.

So we wandered around for the day, her wanting to spoil me, I could of been a kid in a candy store and had whatever I wished in that street, but I felt weird about it, and only let her buy me a few trinkets.

I'm glad we had that day together, purpose designed for me to remember, mum in full glory and not in pain.

I can't say that I'll see you in the afterlife, because I don't believe that I will. But that doesn't make me sad because you were an awesome kick arse mum, and the person I am now is reward enough - thanks muchly to you.
